Large (Bulky) Items
Large, oversized items are anything that is too large to fit within an approved garbage container. These items include furniture, mattresses and box springs. Large items can be placed at the curb for pick-up on your scheduled garbage collection day provided each item has a large item tag attached. Please disassemble and bundle large heavy items so that they are manageable for collection.
For safety reasons, large items that contain glass (e.g. table tops, curio cabinets, etc.) must have the glass removed as this material is not accepted in the curbside collection program. Large mirrors are also not accepted. Large mirrors and large amounts of glass can be taken to select York Region Waste Depots for disposal (disposal fees apply).
Metal Items and Appliances
Large metal items such as appliances, barbecues (no propane tanks), furnaces, hot water heaters, bicycles and other large metal items require a large item tag and special curbside collection.
To arrange for curbside collection, residents must first purchase a large item tag and then call GFL (Green for Life) at 1-866-421-5625. If a special collection has not been booked, metal items will not be collected.
For safety reasons, please remove doors from fridges, freezers, dishwashers and ovens.
Large Item Tags
Large item tags are available for purchase online through newmarket.perfectmind.com and then click on 'Online Store'. You will need to create an Xplor account to place an order. The large item stickers will be mailed to you. They are also available for purchase in-person at the Municipal Offices, Magna Centre, Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, Operations Centre, Newmarket Seniors' Meeting Place and Newmarket Public Library. Please note that only cashless transactions are accepted at the Operations Centre. Alternatively, you can contact Customer Service at 905-895-5193.
Note: If your location or building receives private waste collection, we recommend contacting your building manager or condo board with any questions regarding large item pickup.
