  • Newmarket’s Queen Street Bridge reopens on December 4 at 8 a.m.

    Created: Wednesday, December 03, 2025

    The Town of Newmarket is pleased to announce that Queen Street between Main Street and Prospect Street is set to reopen to traffic and pedestrians on December 4 at 8 a.m. following the rehabilitation of the Queen Street bridge.

    While the roadway is reopening to traffic, crews will continue with minor remaining work on-site in the coming months, with no major impact to traffic flow. All final restoration work is scheduled to be completed by spring 2026.

    “Thank you to the residents, local businesses, and commuters for their patience and cooperation throughout this important capital project. This project is the largest bridge rehabilitation we have undertaken in more than 30 years and involved many skilled trade workers, collaboration with various partners, and extensive communication with the public,” says Mayor John Taylor. “While we recognize the impact, especially on nearby neighbours and businesses, we are proud to see this project completed, on schedule and under the construction budget, knowing it will serve the community for decades to come.”

    Over the past several months, the Town has worked in collaboration with the contractor, Alliance Verdi, and Metrolinx to advance this critical project and support future transit expansion in the area.

    The completion of the Queen Street bridge will now:

    • improve safety and accessibility including wider sidewalks and improved lighting;
    • strengthen infrastructure for long-term durability;
    • reduce future maintenance requirements; and
    • support GO Transit’s planned expansion.
