Applicants are strongly
encouraged to have a Preliminary Meeting with Planning Services staff
before they file an application, especially for the following applications:
So you're getting ready to apply for a preliminary meeting? That's a great first step and we're glad to see that you are taking the initiative to engage with us early in the process! Before your application, we strongly encourage applicants to complete a bit of early "homework" so that all the key considerations have been looked at and reviewed ahead of time. By doing some upfront work through this "homework", the goal is to support a more effective and efficient review process by ensuring that Staff have all the necessary requirements early and so that the development proposal is fully understood from the very beginning.
To guide you through this process, we've put together a simple Checklist for you to go through outlining important topics and materials to consider before applying. Taking the time to work through it now can help to save you time later, giving staff the opportunity to flag potential challenges early such as identifying applicable studies that may be required, reducing back-and-forth communications between yourself and staff, requiring fewer revisions, preventing unnecessary delays, and giving you a more complete understanding of what lies ahead in the process.
Completing this Checklist doesn't just help us with our review – it directly benefits you. The more prepared your application is, the less 'bumps' you will face as you move through the review process. Consider it as a small investment in time now that can result in a big difference down the road.
